About the Marine Industry Education Foundation
MIEF brings dynamic programs and opportunities for youth in the marine industry. We do this using several vehicles:
1.) Riviera Beach Maritime Academy
RBMA is a Public Charter High School that focuses on taking youth that have a passion for boating and preparing them for careers in the industry. The student’s core classes are honors level courses and their Science and elective classes are all centered on the marine industry. The school regularly sends its students into the college world to study and earn degrees in many facets of the marine industry such as Marine Biologists, Architects, IT professionals, chemists. Many of our alumni have been accepted to some of the largest universities and colleges. Students at the school are trained in Marine Mechanics, Boat Building, Yacht Design, Navigation, and Environmental Science. Most of the students leave the school SCUBA certified with dive experience. Some even are able to earn their Captain’s License. We have alumni working for many companies in the marine industry as well as being boat captains, and employees of yacht owners. MIEF is responsible for providing the accentuating support for the school’s programs. One of the largest items is that we maintain the fleet of vessels that the students use on a daily basis to allow them to have their classroom on the water and do the research that is necessary for the classes.
2.) Sea Scouts.
Sea Scouts is a program of the Boy Scouts of America that teaches the same traditional values of the BSA program using the water and boating as the medium for the program. The program focuses on leadership, mentoring and teamwork. Sea Scout Ship 777 takes part in many community service programs throughout the year as well as all of the scout functions that are part of the Sea Scout world. Two of our scouts recently won the William I. Koch International Sea Scout Regatta. The Regatta featured to person teams sailing racing dinghies against sea scouts from around the United Sates as well as 9 international teams. Locally the scouts compete in many competitive big boat sailing regattas. These teenagers are responsible for everything surrounding the operation of their boats from maintenance, to planning to physical operation of the boats.
3.) Haiti Ocean Project:
Project Haiti is a collaborative effort between several organizations. The concept is to bring students both Haitian and American together to develop a whale watching location west of Port Au Prince near Grand Goave. The program will establish an exchange program where American students will spend time in the whale area to study and return their findings to the institutes in the United States. The ultimate goal is to create a tourist sanctuary to help spur the economy.
4. Community Boating Initiative.
The community Boating Initiative is MIEF’s program for helping local youth in our community experience the exciting and rewarding world of boating. Many of these young people would never have access to boating and fever it brings to life without the programs that MIEF operates.
